The Network Data Exchange

A commons for biological networks.

NDEx is an open-source platform where scientists and organizations can store, share, explore, and publish biological network knowledge—turning static figures and supplementary files into reusable research objects.

What is NDEx?

A distribution layer for network biology.

NDEx complements pathway and interaction resources such as Pathway Commons, KEGG, and Reactome. It gives their networks—and networks from individual labs—a common place to be shared while preserving provenance, identity, and attribution.

01

Collaborate

Keep networks private, share them with specific collaborators, or use a shareable URL.

02

Publish

Make networks findable, attach licenses, request DOIs, and link data to publications.

03

Integrate

Move networks between NDEx and Cytoscape while preserving visual styles and layouts.

04

Automate

Build workflows with the REST API and client libraries for Python, R, Java, and JavaScript.

Project support

Funded by NIH’s National Cancer Institute.

NDEx is supported through the NCI Informatics Technology for Cancer Research program. The cooperative agreement sustains and advances NDEx as infrastructure for cancer and biomedical research.
